“In Heaven, Everything is Fine” by Peter Ivers / David Lynch from “Eraserhead” (1978)

Here is one of the more memorable scenes from director David Lynch’s early masterpiece “Eraserhead” … the “lady in the radiator” song “In Heaven, Everything is Fine.” The song was composed by Peter Ivers and David Lynch and sung by Ivers. The song was later covered by Devo and Frank Black of the Pixies. Ivers recorded some eccentric, but occasionally brilliant albums in the 1970s before becoming the host of “New Wave Theater,” one of the best shows from the early days of cable TV. Lynch … well … I wonder whatever happened to him …

“Re-make / Re-model” – Frank Black

Mr. Black covers the iconically weird Track 1 Side 1 from Roxy Music’s revolutionary 1972 debut album. Funny, but had I not known this was a cover, I never would’ve thought Black hadn’t written this himself.

“Los Angeles” – Frank Black

The lead-off track from the Pixies’ Black Francis’s solo debut from 1993 (who had subsequently changed his professional name to Frank Black). I remember hearing this for the first time in May of 1993, having a beer or three with a good friend after an unsuccessful date.  I remember this slammin’ song cheering me up immensely.
